Columbus, Ohio (September 12, 2014) – The nation’s largest, privately-owned manufacturer of acrylic sheet product is poised to become Europe’s largest supplier of mirrored sheet acrylic.

Columbus-based Plaskolite, Inc. purchased the mirror sheet product business of Torino, Italy-based Specchidea s.r.l., the Eurozone’s largest manufacturer of the reflective acrylic product, in August. Combined with Plaskolite’s current mirror sheet distribution in Europe, the Specchidea purchase makes Plaskolite the region’s dominant supplier of a product used in applications that include retail displays, automotive applications and architectural elements.

"Europe is a strong focus for us right now and this purchase allows us to cement our position as a leading supplier in Europe, the Middle East and Asia," said James R. Dunn, president of Plaskolite. "It’s also a continuation of our long-term growth strategy to offer our clients the best acrylic sheet products, wherever those products are needed."

The acquisition of Specchidea’ s mirror sheet business is the sixth such acquisition for Plaskolite over the last four years. Today, the company employs more than 607 people across its five U.S. facilities and plants in Monterrey, Mexico and Malatya, Turkey.

The improving business climate in Ohio, has allowed Plaskolite to contribute to Ohio’s economic growth through job creation and capital investments. Since 2012, Plaskolite has transferred the manufacturing operations of two of its acquisitions to their Ohio production facilities. They will continue this trend by closing the newly acquired Torino, Italy business and moving all production to their Columbus and Zanesville, Ohio locations.

"As we consolidate the Specchidea business between Columbus and Zanesville, the increase in production will translate into additional job opportunities for Ohio residents," said Mitch Grindley, the company’s vice president of sales.

The number of new positions that will be created has yet to be determined, Grindley said. He added that terms of the Specchidea purchase are not being disclosed.
